Are all those your kids?

I have four. F.O.U.R kids. That is not a lot (in my mind). Especially considering that I have friends with 5, 6 or 7 kids.

But I do "get it" that them being so close in age, and all under 5, it looks like a circus when we go out..but I seriously don't get some people's reactions.

For instance, yesterday at Walmart. A man in his late sixties (my guess) was with his wife. She and I were both rummaging through the packaged meats when he decides to go for it.

him: "All those your kids?" (strong southern accent).
me: "Yup."
him: with a chuckle, "you guys aint figured out what causes that?"
me: never looking up from the meats, "Well, actually yes. And we like it very much."
him: an embarrassed chuckle, "well.. uh.. i guess you would."

(I should note that his wife, after I said that we liked it, gave him a death stare).

And I should forewarn everyone.. if you decide to ask me about my sex life.. I will answer you. Gone are the days of politely ignoring you. I will engage your desire to find out about my sex life and reproductive tendencies.

Galaxar out.

Kudos to you for answering him!!!

We've never gotten that one, but "back in the day" I used to get, "You sure have your hands full!"

To which I replied: "Better full than empty!"

See ya at Wal-Mart ;)

HA HA! Hilarious! I got my first "You sure have your hands full" comment last week when I was out. I guess since my belly looks like it's about to pop now, I can expect to get those! How funny that people think 3 and 4 children are a lot!

I love it, Rachel! One of my friend's moms used to get that, "Don't you know what causes that?" question a lot with her 5 kids, so she just started playing dumb and responding, "No, I don't. Can you explain it to me?"

Her questioners usually turned some shade of red and left her alone at that point. I've been known to borrow her line now and then, if the questioner seems to be taking a stab at my choices. Impertinent questions deserve such responses, IMO.

Bob answered that same way to a customer a few months ago.

Hilarious.

At first, I thought it was kind of rude for him to do (since it was a customer) but then I figured it was rude of them to ask! What do they expect?!
