2009 SEC CHAMPIONS!!!

So my little sister and her team (University of Alabama) have won the SEC Championship!! Click here for more info and photos.. and in case you want to watch a replay of the meet for yourself (3/28) watch FoxSports at 6pm.

9.9 on Vault.

Rachel's start value on this vault was a 9.9 and she scored a 9.9 which means it was PERFECT!! GO RACHEL!

My Younger sisters' first meet for UA!

The meet was at Auburn.  And going in to the meet UA had beaten AU the past 95 times the two have competed.  It was a close match all night.  AU looked great!  Especially on Floor.  Two of their girls scored 9.9's.  And at the very end Alabama pulled out the 96th victory by a margin of .02 of a point.  Is that not INSANE?  This site will have video at some point.  

Here are some pics.  Unfortunately, I couldn't get any good action shots.  But I will try to upload my own video of Rachel on the Bars.  The team also wore pink bc it was a Breast cancer awareness meet with proceeds from tickets going to research.

This is Rachel's coach.  No he is not as short as she is.  He is like 7 ft tall and is on his knees.. oh and still taller than her!  She is the shortest on the team at 4' 10.  

One of my BFF's that lives in Columbus, Shelley, came to the meet too.  Please notice the little girls looking at each other.  Naomi Hope and Eva.  BFF's too! 

They are one month apart.  And even though they were tired and it was way past their "bedtime" they did great! 

Even fell asleep during all the noise.  

We had a great time.  It was so good to see Rachel in the college level.  The night before the meet I asked her if she were okay if I were to cry when she walks out and she said "yes.  I'll probably cry too."  I asked her "Is it because you'll be nervous or because its the realization of a dream come true (competing at Alabama)."  She said, "umm, both."  '-)  We love her and can't wait to see the gymnast she is going to become over the next four years, Lord willing. 

Rachel is awesome!!!

Im not talking about me! For those interested, and who wouldn't be, one of my little sisters (i have three. to find out how link here) is a gymnast for the University of Alabama. Here is a video from this site, of her practicing her floor routine. The official season starts in January. She is awesome. Enjoy.

Another video of Rachel. It's kinda long but she shows up at 5:04 in the time and is the one with two wrist bands on. Oh and she is also the one KICKIN' IT on the leg lifts! Notice the ease with which those legs are thrown up!!! woot woot! representin'. (well, not me since i probably couldn't do one! lol).

Has this happened to you??

Have you ever been at Chickfila when you hear your 2 year old giggle as he comes down the playset stairs only too see that he is BUCK NAKED??

Just wondering??

I should also add that the only reason that my two year old did this was because his cousin, Levi, did it first. We are convinced of this. Because they both came down at the same time, naked (well their shirts were still on) and Levi has been naked at home as part of a potty training effort by my sister. So we are sure that he decided to bear it all and then my son, the follower, followed suit. Or no suit.. ha ha..im so witty. At least in my head. Just thought you should know that my little man isn't coming up with this stuff on his own..at least not yet.

We miss you Colorado!

We are back! What a trip. We flew out to Colorado Springs to visit my little brother, Paul, at the Air Force Academy. It was his first free weekend, Parents weekend, since heading out there in June. The flights went well. Jorge loved the "pwanes." Miguel, however was a different story. He just did not like sitting still that long. We got to visit Focus on the Family, The Navigators Castle, Garden of the gods and had lots of good time with the family (Terry). Miguel started clapping while on this trip and Jorge broke his first two year molar. Steaks, here we come! Enjoy some of the fun photos. See if you can tell how tired we are in these pictures.

Coming up for air....

I got back from Tampa at 7am on Monday morning. I was up with the boys and playing at 10am when I got a frantic phone call from my sister in Montgomery. She said she was at the ER with my 5 year old niece, Livia, who had fallen from their second story balcony in their house. She landed on her face and stomach. All they knew was that she had a broken right arm and was in stable condition. Big Jorge and I, with our kids, hopped in the car to see what we could do, namely get Mishka's other two kids, Levi (2 1/2) and Asher (7 months) who were with a neighbor. Enroute we recieved word that by the time we got there, they would be transferring Livia to Childrens here in Birmingham. After two nights stay at Childrens she was released to go home with just a broken arm, a bone fracture under her right arm and a bruised liver. I say "just" because we believe had it not been for her arm "breaking" the fall, we would have had a fatal outcome. Or brain damage at the very least. While my sister and brother and law spent thier time at the hospital with Livia, we had the opportunity to have four kids 2 1/2 and under, under the same roof. I want to thank Brittany who came to help the first day and my sweet husband (who was off of work) who helped the second day. What a week. All that, and the culmination was Bryce asked Esther to marry him on Wednesday night! God is so good. He protected my sweet Livia and has added to our family all in the same week.

Huge Deal!

I wanted to share a neat, exciting bit of news but first I wanted to give a little history. My mom died when I was 11. My dad was killed in a car accident when I had just turned 20. For those of you at SEBC, it was 1998. After dad died, I dropped out of SEBC and started working at SMIC as a youth intern for the Junior High. My first summer there (1999) we took the junior high on the annual Mexico Missions trip. One of the girls in the group was Esther Terry (she was in 8th grade) and her mom Darcy went along as well. On the trip Darcy picked up on the fact that i was in an apartment I couldn't afford and was looking for another place to stay while I was working on an interns pay (very little I might add.. at least it could pay for the bare necessities). Anyhoo, Darcy went home and talked to her husband, Jim, about my situation and they asked the Lord what they could do to help. They considered me an orphan, so they offered up their basement apartment free of charge for me to live in. They already had four kids of their own, Esther, Paul, Rachel and Ruth, whom Darcy was homeschooling. So I moved in. After the first "trial" six months they told me that I was welcome to stay as long as I needed. Then after the first year, Jim told me that they would love for me to stay until I got married, (i.e.. indefinately). At the time I remember saying.. "uh, that could be a while." Jorge had not yet entered the picture. Needless to say I was 25 when I got married and moved out of the house. They are my second set of parents. They love me as one of their own and I love them as my very own blood. Well, after almost 10 years of knowing them and on the eve of me turning 30.. they were ready to make it official. Last friday night Jim talked to his family and they all agreed so he came to me with...."Rachel, if you are okay with it, because we are, we would love to legally adopt you." Of course I started crying, from excitement of course. Here is this family that has four children of their own, but to this day when asked how many kids they have, without hesitation or explination, always say five. Recently at Pauls high school graduation Jim stood up to give a charge to his only son and he began with, "Since Paul is the only boy among four sisters...." He didn't explain that, "well one is sort of like a sister, etc." So bottom line, I said I would love to be officially adopted into the family. Therefore, as I will turn 30 this year, I am going to be adopted by a loving family. It doesn't change what is already there, the understanding, but it makes it official. I couldn't be more excited and proud of how awesome the Lord is. this is not to replace my one and only mommy and daddy, but rather to gift me with another mom and dad who love me as their own. I have been doubly blessed! What a mighty God we serve. Who woulda thunk it? I'll keep ya posted on the process.
